Explanation
Revenue operations consolidates the operational functions that were traditionally split across marketing operations, sales operations, and customer success operations. The problem it addresses is structural: when three teams own three systems with three definitions of a customer, nobody can trace revenue from first touch to renewal, and each team optimises a local metric that may work against the others. RevOps establishes one definition of the funnel stages, one source of truth for account data, one integrated tool stack, and one set of reported numbers. Its work spans systems administration, process design, forecasting, territory and quota planning, compensation mechanics, and analytics. The payoff is decision quality: a company with a coherent revenue data model can tell which channels produce customers who stay, whereas one without it argues about attribution. The risk is drifting into pure tool administration. RevOps earns its place when it changes how the business allocates effort, not when it merely keeps the CRM tidy.
